Labradorite Beautifully Iridescent
This polished labradorite cabochon has been mounted as a pendant in a fine sterling silver setting.
The iridescence comes from light that reflects off fibrous inclusions beneath the surface of the stone. The colours we see are the reflection of light.
This optical phenomenon is known as schiller. When present in labradorite it's often called labradorescence. The effect tends to be more visible in heavily included stones or those with fissures or anomalies.
This piece exhibits fascinating colours. Reds, greens and greys are all clearly visible.
