Aquamarine is the blue variety of the mineral beryl. Shades of colour vary however from pale green to light blue. Most aquamarine is heat treated which enhances the colour. The bluer shades of aquamarine tend to be more popular than green.
Aquamarine is the modern birthstone for March. On the traditional birthstone list it's an alternative to tourmaline for the month of October.
