Raw Green Peridot Stones
This raw peridot has been cleaned but is otherwise untouched.
Most gemstones form in Earth's crust, but peridot and diamond form much deeper, in the upper mantle.
The mineral olivine crystallises as magma cools. The crystals are then carried to the surface through violent tectonic or volcanic activity.
Because of this journey, large and flawless peridot stones are rare, as pressure often causes crystals to break or become damaged.
While olivine is abundant in many igneous rocks, only some crystals are of high enough quality to be considered gem-grade.
Gem-grade olivine is known as peridot. While all peridot is olivine, not all olivine is classified as peridot.
The colour of peridot, which ranges from yellowish-green to deep green to greenish-brown, is caused by iron.
All of the peridot stones in this listing are in our photos.
