The soft blue hue of calcite is believed to come from impurities of oxidised copper.
As calcite is a soft mineral, these stones have been coated with a fine, colourless resin. This offers some protection against flaking and crumbling while enhancing their vitreous lustre.
These fine-grade, blue calcite stones are from South Africa.
They're rough, unpolished stones, so have just been cleaned and filed to smooth sharp edges.
Because rough stone isn't usually cut to a specific size, size varies slightly from piece to piece.
