Pyrite Crystals from Peru
Three distinctive cube-shaped pyrite crystals from Peru.
Cube-shaped crystals, which are relatively common in pyrite, are one of the simplest crystal shapes.
Pyrite is an iron sulphide mineral, meaning it’s composed of iron and sulphur. Although quite hard, it's brittle and can chip or shatter if dropped or knocked.
Pyrite should not be exposed to moisture.
All three of these pyrite crystals exhibit a metallic lustre.
The grooves present on several crystal faces are striations. These distinctive parallel grooves are a natural growth feature that forms during crystallisation.
