Carnelian Agate Stone Carving
Part polished carnelian agate carving with a subtle scooped-out centre.
This chunky piece of natural stone has a deep reddish-brown centre surrounded by white quartz crystals. The top is highly polished, the bottom is unpolished.
Agate has been used by humans for thousands of years. Being relatively hard makes it an ideal material to work with. Stones take on a high polish and are resistant to most chemicals and acids.
Mortar and pestles made from agate were once widely used in chemistry and physics laboratories. The smooth polished surface enabled chemicals to be easily crushed. The agate could then be cleaned without fear of damage.
This ornamental agate stone carving could be used for paperclips, rubber bands or other similar small items.
