Multi Coloured Sapphire Beads (Size 3mm)
Natural coloured sapphire rondelle beads.
Each bead has been faceted. When strung they sparkle beautifully.
Although best known for being blue, sapphire occurs in many different colours.
In ancient times lapis lazuli was known as "sapphirus" which has caused no end of confusion. For hundreds of years this blue metamorphic rock that's often included with pyrite has been mistaken for sapphire.
The name 'sapphire' comes from the Greek 'sappheiros' meaning 'blue stone'
Sapphire is the gemstone variety of the mineral corundum. After diamond corundum is the hardest naturally occurring material on Earth.
Hardness should not be confused for toughness. In reference to rocks and minerals hardness and toughness are not the same.
These multi-coloured sapphire beads were cut from material mined in Sri Lanka.
