Lapis Lazuli Miniature Spheres
These finely polished lapis lazuli spheres have a silky-smooth texture and reflect light beautifully.
Most of the world's lapis lazuli comes from Badakhshan Province in northeast Afghanistan.
The area, known as Sar-e Sang, is a remote region high up in the Hindu Kush mountains. Lapis lazuli has been mined here for more than 6,000 years.
Lapis lazuli, which is a metamorphic rock, is composed of several different minerals. Its distinctive blue colour comes from the mineral lazurite. Golden specs of pyrite and white calcite are also common.
These miniature lapis lazuli spheres were cut and polished in South Africa.
The hematite rings are not included.
