Leopardskin Jasper Size Extra Large
Leopardskin jasper tumbled stones from north west Mexico.
Leopardskin jasper is often described as an orbicular jasper which is not an accurate description of what this stone is.
The name jasper is often used incorrectly to describe any colourful decorative stone that can be highly polished. Using 'jasper' instead of the correct geological name makes it more saleable because it's a material people are familiar with.
Leopardskin jasper is orbicular rhyolite. Orbicular describes a material with orb-like or spherical markings.
Rhyolite is a volcanic igneous rock whereas jasper is quartz and/or chalcedony with impurities of other minerals and substances.
These leopardskin jasper crystals are an extra large size. Size does vary from piece to piece.
Although it's difficult to appreciate from our photos these stones have been finely polished.
We also have leopardskin jasper in medium and large sizes.
