Leopardskin Jasper from Mexico
Beautiful leopardskin jasper crystals from the state of Chihuahua, north west Mexico.
Leopardskin jasper is widely described as an orbicular jasper with particularly distinctive markings. The colour can vary from light shades of brown to the deepest shades of red.
The name 'jasper' is often used as a trade name to describe any colourful decorative stone that can be highly polished. In many cases the material doesn't contain any jasper at all.
Leopardskin jasper is actually orbicular rhyolite. Orbicular refers to its orb-like or spherical markings.
Rhyolite is a volcanic igneous rock whereas jasper is made up of quartz and/or chalcedony as well as other minerals and substances.
These incredibly tactile leopardskin jasper crystals are a larger sized stone. Size can vary from piece to piece.
We also have a smaller leopardskin jasper tumbled stone.
