Crystal balls have intrigued and fascinated humans since the dawn of time. They've always been associated with magic, mysticism and divination.
Divination is the art of reading the future by supernatural means.
The Celtic druids are believed to have been the first people to use a crystal ball for the purpose of scrying. Also known as crystal gazing, scrying is the practice of looking intently into a reflective surface to see images related to the future.
Although the crystal ball became the tool of choice for divination, at one time, any reflective surface was used. The druid civilization disappeared about 1,200 years ago.
When a mineral sphere is produced, as much as 80% of the original material from which it's cut is lost.
Some crystal balls being sold have been produced from glass or lead crystal. Lead crystal is glass infused with lead.
