Tiger Iron Not Tiger Eye
A beautifully polished tiger iron gemstone mounted as a pendant in fine sterling silver.
Made up of layers of tigers eye, red jasper and the mineral hematite, tiger iron is a banded iron formation. This material referred to as BIF by geologists, formed over two billion years ago. Most of the world's major iron deposits worldwide occur in banded iron formations
Only material from the Pilbara region of Western Australia is known as tiger iron.
This tiger iron pendant has been reduced because the bale at the top is very slightly off centre. It's not particularly prominent unless you look very closely.
