Dalmatian Jasper Spotted Stone
Dalmatian jasper is found primarily in the state of Chihuahua in Mexico. It also happens to be named after the spotted breed of dog.
Due to it not actually being a jasper it's also known as dalmatian stone. This material is an alkali feldspar granite which belongs to the feldspar group of minerals.
Many stones are given trade names for the purpose of increasing sales. In many cases they're geologically incorrect. Colourful patterned stones that can be well polished are often called jasper. This is because it's a name people are familiar with.
The dark spots in dalmatian jasper are arfvedsonite. This rare mineral was named after Swedish chemist Johan August Arfwedson who discovered it. Arfwedson is best known for the chemical element lithium which he discovered in 1817.
This dalmatian jasper pendant has been crafted in fine sterling silver. It has been reduced because the bale at the top is approximately two millimetres off centre. It's not that noticeable and doesn't affect the way the pendant hangs.
