Tiger iron is a banded iron formation, but only material from Western Australia is correctly known as tiger iron.
Banded iron formations occur in rocks that date back 1.8 to 2.5 billion years.
In recent years, tiger iron used for its healing properties has acquired the name Mugglestone.
These six tiger iron polished cabochon-style stones have been beautifully polished, which makes them incredibly tactile.
Having a vitreous lustre, they reflect light from almost every angle.
In ambient light, most exhibit chatoyance, some more than others.
