Mookaite Gem-Grade Stones - Western Australia
Two deep red-coloured mookaite gemstones with a subtle hint of cream or yellow. Both stones have a silky-smooth texture, making them exceptionally tactile.
The larger of the two stones has some very minor pitting around the bottom edge that can just about be felt. Also, the base is not finished quite as perfectly as the smaller stone. If you're not looking for perfection, or will be mounting the stone in a setting, these minor anomalies are irrelevant.
Zoom in on our second photo, which shows the backs of both stones, and you'll see how minor the imperfections are.
Mookaite is a sedimentary rock from Western Australia, often described as jasper, which is geologically incorrect.
Found in Mooka Creek, after which it was named, Mookaite features a striking mix of earthy colours, primarily reds, yellows and creams.
