Raw Pyrite Crystals
Natural pyrite cube-shaped crystals from Peru. These pieces are rough and unpolished.
Although some of the crystals in our photos appear dull, meaning only minimal light is reflected, most have a bright metallic lustre, so they reflect light from every angle.
Some crystals show orange-brown patches, a natural staining that forms as pyrite weathers.
Pyrite is a mineral composed of iron and sulphur. These raw cubes can leave a dark, soot-like dust on your hands.
Pyrite is safe to handle, but wash your hands afterwards and avoid touching your mouth.
These raw crystals are suitable for older children, as long as they wash their hands after handling.
Although pyrite contains iron, it's not used as an ore. Its high sulphur content is difficult to remove, and iron oxide minerals such as hematite and magnetite occur in much larger deposits, making them a far cheaper source of iron.
These pyrite crystals are sold by weight, so the number you receive will vary depending on size.
120g is approximately 8 crystals, depending on size.
We currently only have one large pyrite crystal. It's a particularly nice piece with a highly reflective lustre. It weighs 85g.
