Raw Ruby Zoisite from Tanzania
Two striking ruby zoisite stones from Tanzania, one of the only places in the world where it can be found.
The stone on the left is no longer available.
These stones have been washed and filed to smooth rough edges but are otherwise untouched.
Ruby zoisite, also known as ruby in zoisite, is a rock, not a mineral.
It's composed of red corundum and green zoisite and often has inclusions of pargasite or tschermakite, which belong to the hornblende group of minerals.
Red corundum is ruby.
Each stone has a layer of minute crystals that sparkle beautifully as they reflect light. This is most visible in dimmed ambient light.
Both ruby zoisite stones have a flat base, so stand without support.
Zoisite is the same family as Tanzanite, which is blue zoisite.
