Ocean Jasper Rock from Madagascar
Ocean jasper is a rare material that can only be found in Madagascar. Following its discovery in the 1950's the original mine remained relatively unknown until the year 2000.
The stone's popularity increased dramatically after an impressive piece was displayed at the Tucson Mineral Fair in the USA. Just six years later the ocean jasper deposit was mined out.
Although more gem-grade material was subsequently discovered elsewhere in Madagascar, these veins have now also been exhausted.
A highly polished and wonderfully striking piece of ocean jasper. With it now being in such short supply material of this size and grade is becoming increasingly rare.
