A Cluster of Smoky Quartz
Natural smoky quartz crystals emerging from a bed of rock matrix. Some of the terminated points are quite small so you'll have to look closely to find them. Three or possibly four of the smaller crystals have broken off quite low down but we estimate this to have happened naturally many, many years ago. Along with the well formed crystals which can be clearly seen others that are not so visible have intergrown with adjacent points.
Clusters of crystals are not uncommon in quartz and formations can vary in size from tiny to humungous.
All of the smoky quartz points in this cluster are beautifully translucent and exhibit a vitreous lustre.
