Angelite Properties and Meaning

What is Angelite?

Angelite is a distinctive blue-coloured stone used primarily for its metaphysical healing properties. It's a trade name for blue anhydrite, a rock-forming mineral and type of calcium sulphate.

Only blue anhydrite mined in Peru should be labelled as Angelite. Other colours and blue material not mined in Peru should be called anhydrite.

The trade name 'Angelite' dates from the late 1980s, when the stone was first sold from Peru. It's believed to have been chosen because of its perceived association with angels and the angelic realm.

For the mineral's history, more about where the name originated, and what gives the stone its colour, see our main article on Angelite.

Angelite Healing Properties

Angelite is a stone of peace, calm and tranquillity. It's used to ease stress and anxiety, to quieten an overactive mind and to bring a sense of stillness, which is why it's a popular crystal for meditation.

It's known as a stone of awareness and is said to raise consciousness, deepen intuition and strengthen the connection to spirit guides and guardian angels. Many practitioners use Angelite for channelling and for receiving guidance.

Angelite is also associated with compassion, forgiveness and gentle communication. It's used to soothe anger and resentment and to help people speak the truth with kindness.

It's often recommended for grief, particularly for those who have lost someone close, as a stone of comfort and of connection with a loved one who has died.

Angelite and the Throat Chakra

Blue stones are primarily associated with the throat chakra.  Angelite encourages honest and compassionate self-expression. Its pale, ethereal blue also links it with the third eye and crown chakras, the centres of intuition and spiritual connection.

How to Use and Care for Angelite

Angelite can be held or placed close during meditation, placed on the throat or at the bedside, or carried as a tumbled stone. Spheres and palm stones are popular because the stone is smooth and very tactile.

Angelite must not come into contact with moisture, as it will slowly turn into gypsum. Keep stones somewhere cool and dry, and cleanse them with a dry method such as smoke, sound, or moonlight.

Angelite is a soft stone that scratches easily. Therefore, it should be protected from harder crystals. If carried in a pocket or bag, be aware that coins or keys may cause scratches.
