Elite Shungite

Elite Shungite is a natural mineral or more correctly a mineraloid that's found primarily in one location in Russia.  All of the material in our collection has been imported by us from a supplier who's based in Karelia which is where shungite is mined.  Although it can be found in a few other locations worldwide over 90% of the world's supply comes from Karelia.

Elite shungite is the finest grade material that's available and is said to contain the highest percentage of carbon.  These stones are ideal for collectors, suitable for use in crystal healing and may also be used for water purification purposes.  Shungite is known to have the ability to remove organic and inorganic substances, disease causing bacteria and traces of metals from water that's contaminated (original reference). 

Shungite is a lustrous material that's surprisingly light weight.  It has a unique texture and freshly mined stones are covered in a soot-like residue. The fact that most of the world's supply comes from just one location means that it can be quite expensive.

Known to be at least two billion years old, shungite is an amorphous or non crystalline solid that's correctly described as a mineraloid.  A substance that's described as being non crystalline lacks any significant crystal structure so is void of crystals.  It's also believed to be the only natural mineral-like solid that contains traces of fullerene which is a molecular form of carbon.

The price of our elite shungite is calculated according to weight.  Choose the piece that you'd like from the dropdown list before proceeding to checkout.  Due to the amount of elite shungite that we handle it's not possible for us to photograph each piece individually.  Irrespective of the size and weight of the stone that you choose it will have a very similar appearance to the pieces in our photograph all of which are from our collection.
