Royal blue sodalite tumbled stones with a splash of orange colour. These highly polished crystals are AAA grade and as well as being extremely tactile are also wonderfully eye-catching.
This distinctive blue mineral was first discovered in 1806 during the Napoleonic war when a large quantity was sent to Denmark from Greenland. Although not particularly rare, it's a material few people are familiar with despite the fact that some stones can boast spectacular colours.
Sodalite which was named for its high sodium content is a relatively light yet surprisingly hard mineral which grades 5½ to 6 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Despite its hardness it's also brittle which can at times make cutting quite difficult. Nonetheless it remains popular for lapidary purposes and is more readily available and considerably cheaper than the blue metamorphic rock known as lapis lazuli for which it's sometimes mistaken.
These beautiful sodalite tumbled stones are ideal for use in alternative therapies such as crystal healing or they could also be used to create a colourful display.
