Lapis Lazuli Tumbled Crystals
Lapis lazuli tumbled stones AAA grade, these beautiful rocks really do speak for themselves. Highly polished and with rich blue colour, each tumbled stone exhibits inclusions of the mineral pyrite. The lapis lazuli rock from which these stones were tumbled came from Badakhshan in the northeast of Afghanistan.
One of the oldest of all gemstones, the history of lapis lazuli can be traced back thousands of years. It was a favourite of the Ancient Egyptians and one of the world's most famous artefacts the funerary mask of King Tutankhamun features lapis lazuli along with white quartz, obsidian, turquoise, carnelian and coloured glass.
Whilst tumbled stones are widely used in crystal healing, they're also extremely popular with rock and mineral collectors around the world. As well as being incredibly tactile and aesthetically pleasing, these lapis lazuli crystals have a magic about them that's not easy to describe. Millions of years in the making, this fascinating stone is as popular today as it always has been.
Lapis lazuli is often described as a mineral which is not correct because minerals are made up of crystals, rocks are made up of minerals. For this reason it's not really accurate to refer to lapis lazuli tumbled stones as being crystals. This blue coloured metamorphic rock is made up of several different minerals and its distinctive blue colour comes primarily from the mineral Lazurite although other minerals including sodalite, iron pyrite and white calcite may also be present.
