Kambaba Jasper Tumbled Crystals
Highly polished kambaba jasper from Madagascar, available in small and medium sizes.
This unique and distinctive variety of jasper has not been found anywhere else in the world but finding accurate information about its geological makeup has not been easy. Whilst there's no shortage of articles online to read about kambaba jasper, many focus on the stone's healing properties and any scientific information tends to be vague and misleading. As I have learnt after many years of writing about rocks and minerals, it's not always easy to confirm whether facts stated in an article are completely accurate so further research and cross referencing is always necessary. In the case of kambaba jasper that still didn't give me the answers I was looking for but persistence and determination finally paid off.
To get to the bottom of the matter once and for all I turned to one of my favourite mineral forums where I managed to speak with a mineralogist who had worked in Madagascar and was familiar with this elusive stone. He explained that kambaba jasper was being mixed up with another stone called kambaby ocean jasper (often referred to simply as ocean jasper) which also comes exclusively from Madagascar. Although the two materials look quite different, the similarity in the names has caused a great deal of confusion.
With each new article that was written about kambaba jasper came more inaccurate information and the cycle has been repeating for many years.
The story of this relatively rare stone is interesting and confusing. To read what I eventually discovered take at look at the kambaba jasper page in the Articles and Photos section of our website.
