Chunky Tiger Iron Polished Stone
A small but chunky tiger iron stone cut from material mined in Western Australia.
Tiger iron is often confused for the mineral tigers eye. Although they can look very similar they're not the same stone.
Tiger iron is correctly known as a banded iron formation of BIF for short. It's made up of tigers eye, red jasper and hematite.
Subtle chatoyance can be seen in this beautifully polished stone as as it reflects light from certain angles.
The steely grey colour that can be seen on the top edge and front and back is hematite.
In recent years tiger iron has also acquired the trade name Mugglestone.
When used for its healing properties tiger iron is a stone of strength and power. It combines the energies of three minerals in one stone. Hematite works with the brain to help improve memory, red jasper increases strength and endurance and tigers eye is for protection.
