Clear Quartz Crystal Terminated Point
An impressive clear quartz crystal point from our collection of rocks and minerals.
In its purest form quartz is colourless and transparent. This piece boasts exceptional clarity and just has some very subtle inclusions towards the base of the crystal.
Quartz with this degree of purity is also known as rock crystal. The name came about during the late Middle Ages and was used to differentiate clear quartz from a new material known as colourless glass. The glass was also known as crystal glass.
Quartz acts as a prism so by looking through this crystal at just the right angle you can see the different colours of white light. Hold the quartz crystal horizontally up towards natural daylight (or towards your computer). Bring it close to your eye and rotate it very slowly. As you look slightly downwards you'll see a rainbow or spectrum of colours.
White light is made up of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and violet. As white light passes through a denser substance each colour travels at a different speed. As they come out the other side they speed up again. This phenomenon is known as refraction of light.
A beautiful clear quartz terminated crystal that you'll love having as part of your collection.
