Bumblebee Jasper Cabochon Gemstone
If you've landed on this page whilst exploring the "Shop Calcite" menu you may be wondering why you've found bumblebee jasper.
The reason this stone is here is because despite the name, bumblebee jasper is limestone made up primarily of calcite.
Unfortunately many trade names attributed to rocks and minerals can be very misleading. The name "jasper" is often used because it's a popular and well known material.
The sole purpose of using a trade name is to make a stone more saleable.
Bumblebee jasper is found within the vicinity of Mount Papandayan in West Java, Indonesia.
Although widely reported to come from Mount Papandayan, it's extremely rare to find limestone inside or adjacent to a volcano. The most likely reason for the name being associated with bumblebee jasper is because it's a significant landmark not far from where it's found.
This striking cabochon has been finely cut and is well polished. As with all cabochons the base of the stone is flat and the top is subtly rounded.
