Ladies Gemstone Pendant
Sometimes when choosing polished cabochons for our collection of ladies pendants we find a stone that attracts our attention simply because it's unusual or has something else about it that we find curious or interesting. Of course we also have to ask ourselves whether it's going to make an appealing pendant but years of experience has taught us that when it comes to gemstones, everyone has their own unique taste.
Despite using this stone in our collection for the best part of ten years, we are no closer to knowing for certain exactly what type of stone it is. What we do know however is that it's surprisingly popular and the pendants that we have made are never around for long. Having done a considerable amount of research we have established that it's often referred to as mariam fossil, elephant skin jasper and calligraphy stone but these are simply trade names created by retailers or stone suppliers in India where the vast majority of the world's cabochons are processed.
When doing research on the stones that we feature in our collection we're always mindful about where we source information from. Sadly not everything that you read online is factual and despite these names being widely used, there's virtually no information available about what type of rock it is or its origins. Having asked about it on various mineralogy and geology forums nobody seems to be able to give us a definitive answer. So although no closer to finding out geologically exactly what type of stone this is, it's a gemstone that still attracts our attention whenever we're buying cabochons for our collection.
The markings in this mysterious polished cabochon are certainly unique and there's also a curious cavity which goes deep into the stone on the left side. Mounted in a fine sterling silver setting, this pendant is certainly a unique and interesting piece. The reason we have added it to our Bargain Basement is because there's a scuff mark on the left side of the stone which should have been polished out but was clearly overlooked. Although it looks quite prominent in our photo due to our powerful camera lens and studio lighting, it's actually hardly visible in natural daylight and we only noticed it after having looked at the photograph.
As with anything that you buy online from Stone Mania, should you not be completely satisfied with this ladies gemstone pendant, it may be returned for a full refund (T&C's apply).
