Stunning chrysocolla pendant crafted in a setting of fine sterling silver. This highly polished gemstone exemplifies the reason why chrysocolla is so popular as a lapidary material and in particular as a gemstone despite the fact that it's a soft and fragile mineral. The rich azure blue colour is pretty impressive and makes a perfect backdrop for the inclusions of green malachite.
Despite its popularity as a gemstone chrysocolla is a soft stone which grades just 2½ to 3½ on Mohs scale of mineral hardness. This scale which measures the scratch resistance of one natural mineral against the other ranges from one and ten with talc being at 1 and diamond at 10. Apart from the fact that cutting and polishing chrysocolla can be a challenge, it is prone to "crazing" which is a term that's used to describe a fine network of hairline cracks that can sometimes appear in certain gemstones. As well as chrysocolla, opals are also well known for this naturally occurring anomaly.
The crazing in this stone can just about be seen when the cabochon catches the light at certain angles but it absolutely does not spoil the beauty of this magnificent stone. We have however added this pendant to our Bargain Basement to ensure there is no disappointment hence it's being offered for sale at a significantly reduced price.
In the unlikely event that you should not be totally satisfied with your purchase, it may be returned for a full refund (T&C's apply).
We recommend that this chrysocolla pendant be covered with a soft piece of material whenever it's not being worn, this will not only protect the stone from damage but will also minimise the effects of tarnish on the sterling silver.
