What is the Mineral Orthoclase?
Orthoclase is a type of feldspar that grades 6 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness. An abundant rock forming mineral it can be found in most types of granite. It occurs mostly as white or pink coloured crystals. In granite the pink crystals are the mineral orthoclase.
The popular gemstone moonstone is made up primarily of orthoclase.
Orthoclase has been identified in igneous rocks brought back from the Moon and also in those that have been identified on Mars.
