Ruby Zoisite Pendant
Ladies ruby zoisite pendant featuring a deep red coloured gemstone mounted in a sterling silver setting.
Ruby zoisite as its name suggests is made up predominantly of two different minerals, ruby and zoisite and it's found almost exclusively in Tanzania. A popular lapidary material, it takes on a high polish and is also known as anyolite and ruby in zoisite which is a more descriptive name of what it actually is. The Maassai warriors of northern Tanzania refer to it as ruby in zoisite as a display of pride that precious ruby can be found on their land
In mineralogy ruby is the red variety of corundum whilst all other colours are known as sapphire. Zoisite is a distinctive green coloured mineral which is from the same family as tanzanite, a translucent blue to purple coloured stone that's extremely rare and is also found exclusively in Tanzania.
The amount of red corundum and green zoisite that's present in this mineral varies considerably from one piece to the next and inclusions of hornblende are also common. This highly polished gemstone is made up primarily of corundum and features just a tiny patch of zoisite.
