Ladies rhodochrosite pendant crafted for Stone Mania in a simple but elegant sterling silver setting. This meticulously chosen stone is highly polished and features impressive markings on both sides of the cabochon.
The traditional colour of the mineral rhodochrosite is rose-pink and crystals can either be transparent or it can also occur as a banded stalactite rock. Clear crystals are rare and highly sought after but the banded material is more readily available and is a popular lapidary material. Argentina is the main source of the banded variety of rhodochrosite although it can also be found in the USA and South Africa. Despite its popularity and extensive use in items of jewellery, it is quite a soft mineral which grades just 3½ to 4 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness so must be treated with care.
Rhodochrosite is often confused with another pink mineral called rhodonite and although both are manganese minerals whose colour occurs in various shades of pink and red, they actually look extremely different from each other.
