Ocean Jasper Pendant
Ocean Jasper ladies pendant featuring a large and wonderfully distinctive polished cabochon. Despite its size the pendant is not at all chunky which means it's also surprsingly light weight. Ocean Jasper which comes exclusively from Madagascar has long believed to be a rare type of orbicular jasper but new research suggests it may actually be from the family of minerals known as chalcedony. The reason for this is because jasper tends to be opaque because it's made up of a high percentage of other materials and substances yet research has now shown that some varieties of Ocean Jasper can display a degree of translucency which has raised questions about whether it is in fact a true jasper.
Irrespective of what kind of stone it is, Ocean Jasper is both rare and highly sought after but sadly it's also mined out which means there is no gem grade material left available to mine. Cabochons of this size and grade are few and far between but when available, they can be used to create magnificent pieces of jewellery. As Ocean Jasper becomes more difficult to find which it inevitably will, stones like this will only be found in the hands of collectors.
This impressive Ocean Jasper cabochon has been crafted as a ladies pendant in a fine sterling silver setting and is a piece of jewellery that's definitely not for the faint hearted.
