Lapis Lazuli Pendant
Lapis lazuli pendant crafted by hand exclusively for Stone Mania. This unmistakeable blue coloured metamorphic rock is known the world over and has been used and enjoyed by man for around 5000 years. A favourite of the Ancient Egyptians, it was highly prized and featured heavily in the death mask of King Tutankhamun. Much of the lapis lazuli that was mined for use by the Pharaohs came from Afghanistan and some of those mines are still being worked today. Sadly because of the ongoing political situation in the country, good quality lapis from this region is difficult to source and can also be very expensive.
This ancient rock is not a mineral in its own right and is made up of several different minerals some of which include iron pyrite, white calcite and a large percentage of lazurite which is also the main cause of its blue colouration. All of the lapis lazuli that we feature in our collection of gemstone pendants comes from Afghanistan.
This highly polished lapis lazuli cabochon has been crafted as a ladies pendant in a fine sterling silver setting. It has a slim design and is without doubt a beautiful and very eye catching piece of ladies jewellery.
