Chunky Agate Pendant
Impressive agate pendant featuring a large and chunky gemstone mounted in a fine sterling silver setting. Boasting distinctive banding which is a classic characteristic of agate, this eye-catching cabochon is highly polished and slightly translucent. The reason for its abstract shape is because this piece of agate wasn't destined to become a pendant but having spotted it, we wanted it for our collection.
Agate is a banded variety of chalcedony which usually exhibits some degree of translucency. Chalcedony is a variety of the mineral quartz. There are hundreds of different types of agate and contrary to popular belief, not all display concentric bands or band-like patterns.
The prefix in the name of many agates will often give some indication where the stone originated from or what type of agate it is. For example Botswana Agate comes from Botswana, Dendritic Agate is included with dendrites, Crazy Lace and Blue Lace are named for their patterns which someone clearly thought resembled lace and there are many more including Fire, Moss, Plume and Polk-a-Dot to name just a few.
This unique ladies pendant is a one off piece that would definitely suit those who like their jewellery on the chunky side. Weighing in at almost 60 grams, it an impressive stone that's sure to attract plenty of interest.
