Bumble Bee Jasper
Eye catching Bumble Bee Jasper pendant crafted by hand by one of a small team of talented artisans exclusively for Stone Mania. This unique and relatively rare gemstone comes from the volcanic island of Java in Indonesia and when cut as a cabochon, is also known as Eclipse or Eclipse Stone. This is a commercial name that was introduced by stone cutters and manufacturers in Jaipur in India where most of the world's cabochons for use in gemstone jewellery are cut and polished.
The yellow colouration in Bumble Bee Jasper is caused by the presence of sulphur which is believed to contain orpiment, a sulphide of arsenic. It's a wonderfully colourful and particularly distinctive stone but sadly one that's now almost completely mined out hence there is little or no gem grade material left available to mine.
As with all of the gemstones that we use in our collection of ladies pendants, this polished cabochon was meticulously chosen by one of our team prior to it being mounted in a fine sterling silver setting.
