Botswana Agate Pendant
Beautifully polished Botswana Agate pendant crafted for Stone Mania in a fine sterling silver setting. This eye-catching cabochon is fascinatingly translucent and has a vitreous lustre which means that it reflects light in a similar way to that of glass. Its silky smooth texture and striking markings help transform it into a truly elegant pendant.
Agate is a variety of the mineral chalcedony which in turn is microcrystalline quartz. Whilst not all varieties of agate are banded, most exhibit a high degree of translucency. Agates can be found with some truly magnificent colours which are caused by impurities within the stone. In its purest form it's either black, white or grey but being porous and known to hold colour well makes it suitable for dyeing which is done to try and make less colourful stones more appealing to the wider commercial market.
Botswana Agate as its name suggests is from Botswana in Africa and it's not unusual for a prefix to be added to certain minerals to identify where it came from or to highlight another feature or characteristic which is useful for identification purposes.
This ladies Botswana Agate pendant has been crafted by hand and the bale is slightly larger so it may if preferred, be worn on a thicker style of chain.
