Ladies Mookaite pendant crafted exclusively for Stone Mania in a classic sterling silver setting.
Mookaite is a trade name for Australian Jasper which is a wonderfully colourful natural mineral that's mostly used for lapidary purposes and in particular for gemstones. Although different varieties of jasper can be found all around the world, mookaite comes exclusively from Australia. Stones occur in a variety of striking colours and usually take on a high polish. Being opaque as opposed to translucent means that it generally tends to be cut as a cabochon.
In our eyes this polished Mookaite gemstone seems to depict the early morning sun as it breaks through the sky over an arid desert.
Mookaite tends to be known by a few different names but strangely they're all very similar. Mokite, mookalite and mook jasper are just a few but because it's classified as a variety of jasper, stones are often referred to simply as Australian Jasper.
The cabochon in this mookaite pendant has a small indentation on one side which can be seen in our second photo. It's a natural anomaly that could not be polished out without losing more of the stone than is necessary.
