Goniatite Fossil Pendant
Goniatite Gemstone Pendant
This goniatite pendant is definitely a contender for one of our most unusual ladies pendants. This fascinating polished cabochon boasts a fossil of a goniatite and despite palaeontology or fossils not being our field of expertise, it totally captured our attention.
The goniatite is an extinct marine creature related to the octopus, squid and cuttlefish which first appeared approximately three hundred and ninety million years ago. It flourished for the next one hundred and thirty nine million years before becoming extinct around the same time as the dinosaurs.
This fine grained stone is exceptionally smooth and highly polished and has been mounted in a fine sterling silver setting. I think we can say with some degree of certainty that this goniatite fossil pendant makes a unique piece of jewellery and it may well be the perfect gift for a palaeontologist!
