Phosphosiderite Ladies Pendant
Orchid coloured phosphosiderite mounted as a ladies pendant in a hand crafted sterling silver setting. A relatively unknown gemstone which can be found in just a few countries around the world, phosphosiderite boasts a unique colour and subtle yellow veining is also sometimes present. Large quantities come from Chile and this naturally occurring mineral is a form of iron phosphate which is a compound that combines phosphorous and oxygen with iron. Found naturally in many foods, iron phosphate is also used to fortify bread. The iron and phosphate separate when consumed by humans and most animals but as a combined substance it's used as an ingredient to kill slugs and snails.
Despite its impressive colour phosphosiderite is rarely used as a gemstone in this part of the world which may be because it's a brittle and relatively soft stone which makes using it for lapidary purposes slightly more challenging.
This highly polished phosphosiderite cabochon is silky smooth to the touch and surprisingly tactile. To protect the stone and the sterling silver from tarnish be sure to keep the pendant covered whenever it's not being worn. It comes in a handy gift pouch which is ideal for this purpose.
