Beautifully Iridescent Labradorite Pendant
Ladies labradorite pendant featuring a fascinating and highly polished cabochon. When this translucent gemstone is held up towards the light its colour can best be described as a light shade of green however once placed against a darker background, that changes completely. As well as having a much darker appearance, as the stone catches the light at various angles magnificent flashes of peacock blue colour can be seen dancing across the surface of the stone.
Labradorescence or schiller as this optical phenomenon is correctly known is caused by the reflection of light and in stones with inclusions, fissures or small cracks, the effect can be pretty amazing. Whilst this flash of colour is often enhanced in photographs which is achieved by shining bright lights directly at the stone from various angles, we have tried to keep it as natural as possibly by using minimal lighting. It must be said however that the colour in this piece is truly magical but to fully appreciate it you really need to have this labradorite pendant in your hands.
A variety of the mineral feldspar which also includes sunstone and moonstone, labradorite is named after the Labrador coast in Canada where it was first discovered. This carefully chosen cabochon is mounted in a fine sterling silver setting and it's a piece that will certainly not disappoint.
