Also Known as Eclipse Stone
Bumblebee jasper pendant crafted by hand by one of a small team of talented artisans exclusively for Stone Mania. This unique and relatively rare gemstone comes from the volcanic island of Java in Indonesia and when cut as a cabochon is also known as eclipse or eclipse stone. This is a trade name created by stone cutters and manufacturers in Jaipur in India where most of the world's cabochons are cut and polished.
The yellow colouration in bumblebee jasper is said to be caused by the presence of sulphur which allegedly contains orpiment, a sulphide of arsenic. We use the word "allegedly" because others who say they have examined the stone state that it's a type of calcite not jasper with no trace of orpiment at all.
Whatever bumblebee jasper or eclipse stone actually is, it's certainly an eye-catching stone and every piece that we feature in our collection has been chosen for its unique qualities and characteristics. This highly polished cabochon has been mounted in a carefully crafted sterling silver setting and comes in a colourful gift pouch that will help keep the stone safe whenever it's stored away.
