Yellow Calcite Rough
Yellow calcite rough chunks available to buy individually or in larger quantities.
Calcite is the most common form of calcium carbonate, a chemical compound which occurs in rocks as the minerals calcite and aragonite. It's also the main component of pearls, the shells of marine organisms, snails and eggs. A soft mineral that's found in almost every geological environment, calcite is an integral part of limestone. In its purest form it's colourless, very pale coloured or white but the presence of impurities bring about a wide variety of different colours.
Calcium carbonate forms as limescale when ions interact with each other in hard water. When water that's high in calcium and magnesium evaporates, the minerals which are left behind solidify and there you have limescale.
In Ancient Egypt yellow calcite was used for a wide variety of purposes including for eyes in many of their statues. Historically it was referred to alabaster but almost all Egyptian alabaster was actually calcite.
