Magnificent Pink Translucent Crystals
A spectacular cluster of pink calcite crystals on rock matrix from South Africa.
Calcite is one of the most abundant minerals on earth which due to trace impurities and inclusions of other minerals occurs in a wide variety of different colours. The shells of many sea organisms are formed from calcite hence help balance the amount of CO2 (a colourless/odourless gas vital to life on Earth) in the ocean because they absorb the gas in order to make their shells. Without calcite many of these organisms could not exist.
The mineral calcite is a an essential component of limestone which occurs in all three rock types.
This pink calcite crystal cluster is an exceptional piece that's currently housed with my own collection of rocks and minerals where it will remain until it's re-homed.
