Green Apatite Crystals
Rough green apatite crystals popular with rock and mineral enthusiasts but also great for use with alternative therapies such as crystal healing. As well as being very fragile, apatite is also brittle which makes it extremely difficult to facet hence it's very rarely used as a gemstone.
The mineral apatite is relatively common but it's a stone that can easily be confused for many others. The apatite originates from the Greek word for 'deceive' or 'to be misled' and it's believed this may have come about because of the difficulty in identifying the stone correctly.
Green apatite was once known as Asparagus Stone although this name is no longer used.
Boasting a subtle green to yellow colour, these green apatite crystals are unpolished and exhibit a vitreous lustre. When held up towards the light, most display some degree of translucency which would increase further were they to be polished. Apatite grades 5 on Mohs scale and it's the index mineral for this level of hardness.
The weights and sizes of these green apatite crystals varies slightly from piece to piece so the figures below are just a guide.
