Exceptionally smooth and surprisingly tactile chrysocolla polished mineral from the Democratic Republic of Congo. The shape of this turquoise coloured stone is quite unique and although chrysocolla is popular for use in crystal healing and for lapidary purposes, it should be remembered that it's soft and fragile hence should be handled as little as possible. Most chrysocolla that's used for lapidary purposes is combined with quartz so is slightly harder than when pure however it rarely exceeds 4 or 5 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness.
Although chrysocolla can be found in several locations around the world some of the finest specimens come from Africa. Eilat Stone or Stone of Eilat is basically chrysocolla that's mined in or around the region of Eilat in the far south of Israel. Like the material known officially as chrysocolla it's made up of azurite, malachite, turquoise and often quartz.
This unique chrysocolla mineral would make an ideal display piece for anyone who loves polished crystals rocks and minerals.
