Highly polished chrysocolla pebble, this attractive piece boasts distinctive colour which is caused in part by the presence of the mineral malachite.
Chrysocolla is a soft stone which grades just 2½ to 3½ on Mohs scale of mineral hardness. It's often found in and around copper mines and is frequently associated with quartz, azurite, malachite, cuprite and other copper minerals. Although Theophrastus the Ancient Greek philosopher wrote about Chrysocolla in his treatise Theophrastus on Stones, it's believed the name did not refer solely to the stone that we know today as chrysocolla but also to a number of other copper minerals including malachite.
This eye-catching natural mineral is wonderfully tactile would certainly make a great gift for anyone who has an interest in polished rocks and minerals.
