Bumble Bee Jasper
Bumblebee Jasper from the Island of Java
Bumble Bee Jasper is becoming increasingly rare and has only ever been found on the Indonesian island of Java. LIke so many other natural minerals it's almost completely mined out which means the mines are virtually depleted of any gem grade material. The vast majority of Bumble Bee Jasper which has already been mined is either in the hands of mineral collectors and dealers or is sitting in warehouse in India waiting to be transformed into cabochons. Many of the gemstones used in commercial grade jewellery that's sold around the world are cut and polished in Jaipur. When cut as a cabochon Bumble Bee Jasper is also known as Eclipse Stone, this trade name was created by manufacturers in India.
This relatively unknown variety of jasper is a sedimentary rock that's made up of volcanic ash, mud and layers of sulfur which is the cause of its vibrant yellow colour. As material becomes more difficult to find the price of Bumble Bee Jasper steadily increases. Apart from cabochons and tumbled stones it's now extremely difficult to find any other decent grade material.
This well polished chunky Bumble Bee Jasper stone boasts incredible colour and is one of only a few pieces that we currently have available in our collection.
