Natural Blue Chalcedony Mineral
Natural blue chalcedony mineral with a slightly waxy lustre. Chalcedony is a microcrystalline variety of the mineral quartz which means its crystals are so small they can only be seen with strong magnification.
In its purest form chalcedony is white but inclusions of other minerals bring about a wide variety of different colours. Although the blue variety tends to be known simply as chalcedony, most other colours have their own unique name. When chalcedony occurs with distinctive bands it's known as agate, with an apple green colour it's chrysoprase and the reddish orange variety is better known as carnelian.
Chalcedony is relatively hard and grades 7 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness. Being porous makes it easy to dye and much of the subtle coloured material ends up artificially coloured in an attempt to make it more appealing to the wider commercial market.
In crystal healing chalcedony is used to balance the energy of the mind, body, emotions and spirit and is said to alleviate hostility and an irritable mood. It's also said to enhance generosity and help increase mental stability.
