Black Quartz Cluster
Magnificent cluster of black quartz featuring several different sized terminated points. Sadly some of the tiniest ones are too small to be seen in either of our photos.
This impressive natural quartz mineral comes from the Ouachita (wosh-i-taw) and Ozark mountains which stretch from West Central Arkansas to Southeastern Texas in the United States. Embedded in rock matrix and with a partial covering of sparkling calcite crystals, each of the well formed terminated quartz points has a vitreous lustre.
Despite quartz being one of the most abundant minerals in the world, pieces like this are highly sought after and evoke curiosity and fascination every time you look at them. The Ouachita Mountains located within the Ouachita National Forest is one of the few areas in the world where large quantities of high quality quartz crystal can be found.
